In this unit, you’ll explore the key anatomical principles that influence implant placement, from craniofacial osteology and innervation to vascular structures, musculature and site-specific surgical risks. You’ll also examine how alveolar bone changes following tooth loss, and how these three-dimensional changes affect implant positioning, access, treatment planning and long-term outcomes.
The unit places particular emphasis on recognising anatomical variation, understanding risk, and using radiographic assessment, including CBCT interpretation, to support safer decision-making. You’ll be encouraged to think beyond standard anatomical knowledge and apply it directly to real clinical scenarios, where careful planning can help prevent avoidable complications.
